Overview

This Privacy Policy describes how your personal information is handled in Small Key on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.

Your lights stay yours

We do not collect, use, save, or have access to the lights you create in Small Key, including their names, brightness, and color temperature, or to your settings.

Your lights and settings are stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud database so they stay in sync across your devices. This is accomplished by leveraging Apple’s CloudKit framework. We cannot see anything stored in your iCloud account. Apple’s privacy policy can be found here.

Small Key does not ask for access to your camera, microphone, photos, location, or any other personal data on your device.

App analytics

To help us understand how people use Small Key and to keep improving it, the app sends anonymous usage events to Plausible Analytics. These record which screens are opened (a light, the Edit Light screen, or the welcome screen), when a light is created or deleted, which brightness or color temperature preset is chosen, and your app version and platform (iOS, iPadOS, macOS or visionOS).

These events never include your light names, your settings, or any identifier for you or your device. Like any internet request, each event reaches Plausible with your IP address and a standard header naming the app and your operating system version. Plausible uses these to estimate your approximate location (country, region and city) and to count unique visitors with a value that changes every day, so activity cannot be linked across days or traced back to you. Plausible does not store your IP address. This data is not used for tracking or advertising and is never sold. Plausible’s data policy can be found here.

You can turn this off at any time in Small Key’s Settings, under Privacy › Share Anonymous Usage Data. The setting syncs through iCloud, so turning it off on one device also turns it off on your other devices once they sync.

We also receive the generic, anonymous statistics that Apple’s App Store Connect provides to developers when you have chosen to share them with app developers. These cannot personally identify you in any way.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Small Key handles your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
